Goals of the Project (for LCC students):

  • describe their city, history and its culture and how it relates to the rest of Canadian culture
  • describe how the stories share Canadian/Montréal/Québec culture and values
  • Collaboratively negotiate and complete the appropriate research to describe the historical background necessary to explanations
  • Collaboratively describe any rhetorical devices that are evident (in particular, metaphor and motifs)
  • create a creative writing piece that is a memoir (day-in-the-life-of experience)
  • provide feedback to peers about their creative writing and information (i.e. editing suggestions, clarification)
  • provide feedback to peers outside their culture about their presentation of media material and information

The students will use the moodle area (http://www.mtl-peters.net/moodle06/) to get to know each other and share their cultures and personal experiences.

The LCC students will work in small groups to present one short story or piece of literature and describe the historical and cultural situations evident within the work, and what rhetorical devices are used.

The students will use a wiki to post their content: Relevant explanations of the short story and appropriate historical references, and their reflection pieces.
